One Voice Silenced Us All

Something happened the other day when we were attending church.

Five minutes before the service starts, there is normally a prelude performed…mostly a song played on the piano, sometimes a brass ensemble, hand bell ensemble, or soloist performing a song while the chatter from the congregation continues.

But this Sunday was different.

A woman walked up to the lectern and started singing a capella.

And you know what happened?

Everyone stopped talking and gave her their full attention. You could hear a pin drop from the near silence in the sanctuary. One voice made the world stop and demanded a spirit of awe and reverence.

It was innocent and beautiful and I will always remember how powerful that moment was.
