Across the Aisles

Recently, I had the opportunity to perform at the Lincoln Center in New York City. I joined a choir filled with two hundred voices from all across the country. We all memorized our music, met some new friends, and had so much fun. Here are a few thoughts I wrote in my hotel room after one of our rehearsals:

“You know what I love about singing in a choir?

Across the aisles, you have so many colorful voices singing together.

Across the aisles, it doesn’t matter how old you are because everyone has a voice.

Across the aisles, singers can blend their voices together to sound like one when they truly listen to one another.

Across the aisles, we can sing different voice parts that support one another.

Across the aisles, people can gather from all across the world to sing together.

Across the aisles, we learn how to work together to create something that sounds beautiful and has the ability to heal a broken soul, even if just for a moment.”

My hope is to remember these words and this sentiment so that I never get distracted in my motivation for writing music, because this…this is the whole point.
